I want to thank Pat Gorman for sharing her harrowing experience
with Graves' disease. My daughter had a similar experience, only
she showed symptoms for years (including sleep disorder, anemia,
tachycardia and ultimately Graves' ophthalmopathy, which is not
reversible in most cases). Graves' can be very serious in a *non-
gravid* woman. Please recommend a *good* endocrinologist and a
*good* OB to your client, and try to dissuade her from
alternative solutions. Sometimes lay people have difficulty in
understanding that medical science and medical technology, as
wonderful as it is, sometimes cannot come through for us, and
decisions that we make that are not the best ones cannot always
be reversed, cured, or bypassed. Judy Knopf, who has seen a lot
in her almost-50 years.
