Hi All,
In my experience, most moms I see or talk to who have had the Depo shot have
had some degree (from minimal to catostrophic) of a drop in their milk
supply. I have only talked to 2 or 3 who had no problems with their supplies
after getting the Depo shot. I have had moms whose Drs insisted that they
get the Depo shot before they leave the hosp, and their milk never came in.
(Now why any intelligent Dr would insist that a mom start on hormonal BC
right after birth is beyond me.) I know that the lit and most Drs will say
that Depo will not affect milk supplies, but I have seen otherwise.
The problem I see with Depo and BF moms, is that if there is a severe (or
hunger causing )drop in the milk supply, there is NOTHING the mom can do.
The drug stays in the body for the full 3 months! I reccomend to my moms
that if they must use hormonal methods to please use the mini-pill so that if
their supply is affected, they can stop taking the pill right away and build
their supply back up. Mos tof the moms I have discussed this with feel that
that is reasonable. Some went ahead and went with the Depo, but mainly
because BF wasn't a major concern, they could take it or leave it.
Just my .02!

Take care all!
Jay

PS. I missed the Ezzo thing!! :( I couldn't find it in my TV Guide, and
when a friend told me it was on, I was too late. Bummer man. I have a
friend who has talked with the Ezzo's in person, and he says that he is
rethinking their philosophies. He and I have had a couple of in depth
discussions about child rearing and discipline. His mom uses Ezzo philosophy
with her younger sons, and when I described both boys behavior (to a T, I
might add) he was shocked! He had not told me anything about his younger
brothers, and yet with the info we have learned about the Ezzo theory, I was
able to tell him what his siblings were doing. Kinda sad, if you ask me.
