Of course you can breastfeed a diabetic toddler :-)

There is another option for insulin therapy: an insulin pump. My daughter
have had diabetes from birth and she was put on pump at five weeks old.
(She was very SGA and was at NICU and on i.v. insulin at first.) I was told
by some of  the health care professionals that I could not bf her, but her
diabetologist left that decision to me. I breastfed her on demand and her
MD figured out and taught me how to adjust insulin doses with the pump
according her blood glucose levels. She is now three years old, still on
pump but was weaned a couple of months ago :-)

They are putting small children on insulin pumps more now here in Finland
because they have seen how well it works with motivated parents and
children thanks to Emma (my daughter). Our diabetes care is quite advanced
(we have the highest juvenile diabetes figures of the world).

Hope that the mother breastfeeds her daughter as long as she would have
done without diabetes.
