Baby formula sales examined

Stolen-goods dealing suspected at New Berlin wholesaler

In February, federal investigators aided by New Berlin police went to the
warehouse to seize suspected counterfeit products.

While there, investigators noticed large stocks of infant formula believed
to have been stolen.

"Among other things, other agents and I saw at least 200,000 cans of infant
formula, some of which bore indicia (indications) of having been stolen, in
the northeast corner of the warehouse," an investigator said in an affidavit
of the Feb. 14 raid.

That affidavit indicates Kaloti Enterprises regularly received shipments of
suspected stolen formula and employed five illegal immigrants to repackage
the formula before it was sold.

"The illegal aliens employed by Kaloti 'clean' the cans by removing store
stickers and price tags, wiping dust from the cans, repackaging the cans
into cartons of six and shrink-wrapping the cartons," the affidavit says.

One search of trash at the firm's warehouse by agents in 2006 "revealed that
Kaloti Enterprises had sold more than 17,000 cans of infant formula over an
unknown time period," sales which would have generated more than $200,000 in
revenue, according to the affidavit.
