Yes, she would certainly meet a lot of them in our Group! We have had
three mothers get advice from their pediatricians to wean so the child
would eat more. As a Leader, all I have to do is ask them how they feel
about this advice, and I have the wonderful experience of seeing learn
to listen to their babies. I do suggest that they can "play around" with
the timing of foods, and after a year do not have to bf before every
meal. In fact, some babies I know personally do better if they are bf,
played with, and fed half an hour or so later, when they are content and
not starving. Panicky babies -- those high-need ones that are often
sensitive to many foods and frequent breastfeeders -- also do well if
they are breastfed *after* eating, to console them from the trauma of
having something not-so-yummy in their mouth.
There is a silver lining (says Pollyanna). We're getting these questions
more because more toddlers are breastfeeding more frequently -- there
was a time when the only child over 3 I knew who was breastfeeding only
nursed at night. That probably didn't interfere with his consumption of
other foods quite as much.
