In the case described where the mother is being asked to consider use of
galactogogues due to concern about baby's rate of weight gain, there weren't
any numbers. Do you have the baby's birth weight, age at which birth weight
was recovered, age at time when mother returned to her other job, and weight
now?
Not all practitioners have the same definition of 'adequate', and some babies
tend to be long and lean while others are short and round. I have a hunch that
a pediatrician whose first response is to suggest galactogogues is pretty savvy,
but I'd never hazard a guess on how to proceed without knowing the numbers.
