Thank you so much, all of you, for the outpouring of supportive thoughts and
prayers and emails and phone calls. I know there are lots of you who held us
in your thoughts even if you didn't feel you could write. There are
Lactnetters here in my city who have also brought food, and offers babysit
and to help in other ways.

It meant so much to me to come home each night from the hospital and to read
your emails and to know that there was a circle of warm support and thought
and prayer enveloping me and my husband. He is now home from hospital
recovering remarkably well from surgery. His Stage IV astrocytoma was almost
100 per cent resected - just a lip was left as it was alongside a major
blood vessel.

I have been reflecting on the lives we both have lived - everything from
work with people with AIDS in the early eighties and fighting to legalize
midwifery to writing medical procedure white papers and producing television
programs on leading-edge medical research, shepherding annual reports for
hospitals, and of course volunteer work in breastfeeding.

I can look back now and see how that work and experience and contact with so
many amazing people has helped to shape and prepare us and equip us for this
challenge.

LactNet has taught me things I didn't even know that I knew until this last
week. I can't go into details - it's too hard to conjure them all up. But I
want you all to know that you have given so much in ways you probably
couldn't imagine.

Thank you.
