Dear Lactnetters,
In response to book suggestions on Lactnet- and there have been some lately
that I want to persue- If you haven't come across Our Babies Ourselves: how
biology and culture shape the way we parent by Meredith Small, it is VERY
interesting- I've just started it. It was published in 1998, so many of you
have probably already read it, but if you haven't- check it out!
Also any experiences to share on distraught born hungry babies babies? I
just took care of a VERY VOCAL baby- cried for 2 hours after an easy
delivery (yes with epidural)- Mom had temp- no other problems- but it took 2
hours before she would settle and nurse- she continued this until discharge
at a little over 24 hrs- Dad is freaked, Mom relatively calm about it- is a
Peds resident (Murphy's Law?) The baby is consolable, but falls asleep then
and won't nurse. When she does nurse it is for maybe 10 minutes, then stops
and screams and won't latch back on. Mom has evident colostrum. They are
already referring to her as the little redhead with an attitude. I am
thinking time and an increase in milk volume will take care of it. I have
had what I call "talkers" before- but this one...oh my!
Happy New Year Lactnetters! Thank you for your sharing-an ongoing education
and support system for me, even though I mainly lurk...
Diana, and I won't even mention what we consider cold and miserable for
winter weather in costal SC as I think of Jan up in Wheaton, where I grew up
and walked to school in the snow in my mini skirts (no slacks allowed for
school in those days!)
