The more I thought about your post, the more puzzled I became. We teach
several hundred students a year in our various courses, and not a single one
has mentioned JCAHO cracking down on the use of non-approved substances.
Now, does that mean use of anything that has not been approved by the FDA, or
non-approved use of a particular approved substance? So would that mean that
JCAHO would be cracking down on giving Depo Provera before 6 weeks? Would be
cracking down on putting formula in the bladder of a mom who has had a
C/Section to determine if there are any nicks in it? Would be cracking down
on the use of Cytotec to induce labor?

Or does it just mean that if there is a substance that has not been approved
AT ALL by the FDA that it can't be used in a hospital?

Does anyone know how to get a list of the drugs that have been approved for
use?
