Hi Pauline,
In this case I would choose to feed exclusive breastmilk for as long as possible, so not stretching the stock and add ABM. This is a vulnarable baby that needs the full and uninteruptered protection of human milk as possible.
I hink reducing time is a priority for this mom. Breastfeeding, pumping and bottlefeeding all need time and will make feel that she is just feeding the baby. These can be combined and give mom some time for other things. I'd try to teach mom how to do these 3 things together. She will need a good electric pump, perhaps a device that enables her to pump without needing to hold the pump and a SNS or similar system.
First have the baby latch on the beast with the SNS in place (perhaps under a nippleshield for more secure grip), Once baby is drinking (make sure the SNS is placed so that milk will flow easily), attatch the pumpflange at the other breast and start pumping. Baby can drink 1 breast and mom pump the other, but she ma also switch and have baby drink the pumped breast as wel to drain it a bit more. Pumped milk will be fed at the next feeding session, perhaps with some added freezer mik.
Besides time gain it will also help mom with pumping more, because letdownreflex will be stimulated better by the drinking baby, thus increasing milksupply. In the learning fase she may want to use oxytocin nasal spray to enhance letdown that may be inhibited by the stress of learning something new. Galctogogues may help boost her milkproduction in addition to increased stimulation.
This all might result in not needing to finish all freezer milk at all. If baby is healthy now I presume that good feeding will strengthen him enough to increase his own ability to empty the breast and keep the milkproduction up to his needs.
O, btw, this certainly is no *duh* question. These situations are always challenging, for moms, babies, lay and professional counselors. Keep up the good work: moms and babies need helpers with a passion.

  Warmly greeting
Gonneke, IBCLC, LLLL, MOM in Southern Netherlands
