Has anyone out there read the article in Pediatrics Vol. 97 No. 4 1996
Breastfeeding and the Working Mother: Effect of Time and Temperature of
Short-term Storage on Proteolysis, Lipolysis and Bacterial Growth in Milk by
Hamosh, Ellis, Pollock, Henderson and Hamosh. This study was done at
Georgetown University. Their conclusion was storage of human milk is safe
at 15C(59F) for 24 hours, whereas at 25C(77F) is safe for 4 hours. Milk
should not be stored at 38C(100F). As I understand it 15C would be
refrigerated and 25C is room temperature. (Sorry I don't know how to get
the degree mark on Eudora Light). My question is why is there such a
decrepancy in this study to the previous studies giving 10-12 hours safety
for room temperature and 5 day refrigerated. What will the impact of this
study be on the information we give to mothers???? HELP PLEASE!!!!!
