Beste Lacnetters,

I have a few questions that have been bothering me for months now and I
can't find a definite answer.
I have a copy of a brochure about Candida and breastfeeding. I find it a
good brochure and I believe it gives good information about what Candida is,
how it can be treated with conventional medicine, ways to decrease
re-transmission etc. However, it also gives the following advice:
1. To reduce sugar and more complex carbohydrate intake and 2. To avoid
yeast from bread, cheese with fungi and mushrooms etc.
I just can't get my head around this advice. I have therefore tried to do
some literature research to find out if this is sound advice. I do not see
how going low on carbohydrates is going to effect your blood sugar levels if
you are have normal insulin production. I've asked a friend who is a medical
doctor and she thought it was also dubious advice. A web search led me to
the "candidiasis hypersensitivity syndrome" (this is reported to be very
dubious according to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and
Immunology ) amd the hypoglycemia syndrom. But both of these "syndroms" also
don't seem to make sense to me.

What I also don't get is how eating mushrooms can affect candida growth on
your nipples??

Feel free to think me naieve but I just can't make the connections between
high carbohydrates, mushrooms and Candida in breastdfeeding mothers /
babies.

I've done several Medline searches for literature and found nothing (in
English anyway). Thus I'm beginning to think these theories are old wives
tales or I'm loosing it.

I hope someone can help with some good references to some peer reviewed
journals. I've been down the quackwatch and alternative health routes and
they naturally contradict each other. Now I'm looking for good independant
science!

Thanks in advance
