Dear Lactnetter:

I would appreciate some insight from the smartest people I know. I have a mom
who really wants to breastfeed. Baby is 7 weeks old. Has never breastfeed
well. I came into the picture at 4 weeks. Another LC had pretty well given
up on this mom. She called me for another prospective. Moms big problem is
she isn't very compliant. I had her milk production up with SNS, MoreMilk and
Feenugreek tincture. Mom puts baby to breast for around 3 feedings a day. Mom
thinks that the baby needs the bottle to get enough and also wants her
boyfriend to feed the baby. She unfortunately got the flu, went away for the
holidays and is very tired and under stress. Mom has pumped intermittently
when she has not nursed and gets very little production. Now, she developed a
rash on her hands, and she thinks it is from the herbs. She had increased the
dose to 2-3 drops per 10 pounds and takes it every 3 hours. She is now taking
it like I had originally suggested and the rash is diminishing. This mom
really has a heart of gold and wants to nurse. Do you have anymore
suggestions for me to help her get her supply up a little more quickly. I'm
afraid if she doesn't feel an increase pretty soon, she is going to give up.
She had supplemented almost all feedings until I got involved. Thanks for
listening.
