Regarding the offer of $125 for participating in an industry-funded focus
group discussion:
If the LC requested that the money be donated on her behalf to a charitable
cause working with mothers and babies, and made public her reason for
declining personal compensation for appearing in a sponsored forum, it might
make a point.
Or if she just appeared without compensation, and made that fact known
within the group and in connection with any publishing of results-- same
point, and no question of conflict of interests.
If I were to do that, I would insist on a written agreement beforehand to
ensure that my voluntary participation would be publicized both at the time
and in any later references to the work of the group.
