Thanks, Mary. I'll look in Riordan. Colleen, I'm sorry but I don't have
any more info about this case as I was not involved. The question was asked
by my colleague, a Neonatologist, for his wife, who is an IBCLC at another
hospital. He is well aware of the difficulty in getting a "clean" specimen,
the probability of growing many organisms, and the likelihood that if there
actually was an organism to be concerned about that it might not even grow
due to the WBCs and macrophages in human milk. He said he learned this
first hand by ordering cultures very early in his career when they routinely
cultured all milk in the NICU. Does anyone know of any studies that his
wife can give to the client to give to the client's doctor that I can access
easily for him?
