In The Netherlands homebirthing is still practiced as normal (60% initially
intending at conception, 30% actually homebirthing after close prenatal
screening by mostly private practicing and independant midwifes) and the
morbidity and mortality rates do not differ in a negative way to those in
other western countries and outcomes are in the higher ranks, I think only
Scandinavian countries are better.
One must ofcourse keep in mind that not only the place of birth but also the
quality of pre- and postnatal care has to be of the highest standards, which
definitely does not mean to be of the highest technical possibilities.
