I've been following this thread for a few days, but Sharon's post on the
role of the LC has prodded me to cheer. Sharon, you remind us to be aware
of our own causes and beliefs and to work in a way that doesn't compromise
our own values, nor the values of those we serve.
For some of us this may mean taking a stand for flexible work, allowing
mother and child to be together nearly all the time throughout the course of
lactation. For others it may mean working to implement the program endorsed
by the International Labor Organization, calling for breastfeeding breaks
and maternity leave for all mothers.
It's different for each of us. Personally I am in favor of telling women
the truth, and it isn't true that you can only be an acceptable mother if
you do it 'my' way. I know lots about breastfeeding but I don't know what
her life is like.

who knows first hand that breastfeeding while attending day care makes for
healthier day care participants too
