With all due respect from where you're coming from, Mary Kay (I've been
there too), you're response to Kirsten's innocent request for LLL's hotline
info. really threw me! I've been a LLL for 10 years and have done hot line
duty several times, including the night shift. In my experience, most moms
that call in the middle of the night tend to be moms with newborns, and are
in desperate need of reassurance that things are "normal", or they are in a
crisis, baby won't nurse, etc. Things always seem worse in the middle of
the night, don't they? I think it's wonderful that mothers have the option
of getting *expert* breastfeeding help when ever they need it. At 2:00 am,
tears of frustration can be turned into tears of relief by a 10 minute phone
call with a compassionate and experienced LLLL. Personally, I find that to
be very rewarding (yawn).
Lastly, without stating the obvious, a leader who does not want to be
awakened in the middle of the night shouldn't *volunteer* to work the night
shift...

By the way, the hotline is always in need of volunteers, especially with the
holidays approaching.
To contact an experienced LLLL near you, call 1-800-LaLeche, 24 hours a day,
7 days a week.

Warmly,
Lisa Huntze, BSE, IBCLC
