The idea that an insurance company would threaten to raise rates
because a mom continues breastfeeding is certainly absurd. Much has
already been said about that.
Tracy T. in a recent post stated:
"Recently someone who was working on insurance reimbursement issues
told me
that the insurers are only interested in very short term
outcomes. Most
people switch insurance plans and companies several times and the
same
company cannot expect to benefit from preventive measures, so they
are
motivated to reduce costs for each visit and limit number of
visits."

I think this is the main reason why it falls on deaf ears to tell
insurance companies that if they cover the costs of LC consults,
breast pumps etc, they will save money in the long run. The pocket
that pays for the pump and or consult is NOT the same pocket that
eventually pays for the aftermath of not providing such coverage.
