Wendy:  Congratulations on the birth of your new grandson!  Guess what, 
ancedotal stories are still true!  You are describing the births of my last 2 
babies, both umedicated VBACs, the middle one born at 35 weeks (perfectly 
healthy and at the breast 10 minutes after birth).  The other at breast 
seconds after birth.  I am thoroughly convinced that if we all birthed our 
babies in the way that Mother Nature intended, we would all have a full milk 
supply by 24 hours PP.  I had full (not engorged) breasts by 24 hours with 
both these babies.  I even had milk by 48 hours after my C/S (unmedicated 
labor with 4.5 hours pushing, general anesthesia for the surgery).  I was able 
to start nursing the 1st by 4 hours PP and roomed-in with her even though it 
wasn't the thing to do 26 years ago.
Weight loss was also minimal with all my babies, as well as jaundice.  My 35 
weeker's bili was 23 at 72 hours of age, causing my pediatrician to be in the 
verge of a stroke, but she was eating, pooping and peeing.  Maybe a 35 week 
liver?
I also notice that unmedicated babies who are doing a lot of S2S and rooming-
in, don't seem to fall into that deep, unarousable prolonged sleep state that is 
so common in the 1st 24 hours.  I don't ever recall having a problem "waking 
the baby" for feedings, even my jaundiced baby.
