Wow Judy,

Sounds like you've been holding that in for a long time!

Do you think the baby was born with impairments, or do you suspect the
off-gassing?

Do you think consumerism made the family like that? Or other "maturity"
problems?

I know how sad it is to see something like that nursery. I have a family
member with a three year old. His bedroom is bigger than my living room and
packed with toys. As if that weren't bad enough, he also has a playroom full
of toys. Frankly, I think the only reason that the kid gets so much is that
it keeps him out of his mother's hair and it makes her look good when people
come over (she LOVES to show off how much stuff he has. Even spent an
entire evening showing me the kid's TV, VCR, and video games. Then tried to
convince me that I should get one for my 2 yo who's most advanced toy is a
kick and play piano). The "funny" thing is that they are dirt poor. They
never live for anywhere for more than 6 months or so because they are always
being thrown out for getting behind on the rent.

It's been that way since the day he was born. His mother wouldn't even
consider bfing, ties me down too much she said. She smokes and won't even
consider going into a seperate room, even though he has asthma and chronic
ear infections. Because her and her boyfriend can't be allowed to get too
bored the baby is left with whomever (almost literally) will take him so
that they can go out.

They also want to have another child.

Do you think that's consumerism? Or just the selfishness that seems so
inherent in our society?
