Dearest Lactnetters,
I have been asked to revise the breastfeeding portion of our hospital
maternity book for expectant parents. It currently states that pregnant women
should eat 1900 cal & lactating 2200 cal. Do we really want to mention that
200-300 extra calories/day are needed? I always have a problem with specific
caloric needs--it doesn't take into consideration various individuals'
heights, weights & activity levels. It also recommends continued use of
prenatal vitamins. I would appreciate some references as well as opinions
about listing dietary guidelines for breastfeeding women.

Thanks,
Laura Hart, RN,BSN,CCE,IBCLC
Central Florida USA....so far south that we don't have the beautiful fall
colors

P.S. Thanks for always being caring & attentive. I'm glad that I'm getting to
know so many thoughtful & informed individuals here on Lactnet.
