Hi everyone,

While I was teaching a Breastfeeding class several moms asked about
how often they needed to sterilize bottles (that they used to feed
EBM once they return to work!!)?? The package recommends just
initially and then continue to wash with hot soapy water after each
use?? Is this sufficient or should they be sterilized once a day or
once a week??

Also I remember at a conference in April, and also a comment from an
editor on my manuscript that said plastic bags were not recommended
for the storage of EBM due to the poss. loss of immunoglobulins, esp
specific to E Coli and that hard plastic and glass was recommended.
I was wondering if anyone knows of the source of this info, and what
is the reason, is it the light tranfer or is it the type of
material?? My suggestion (moms were concered about cost and liked the
plastic bags) if it would be due to light transfer would
be to put the baggies into a colored tupperware container within the
freezer??

Any info please e-mail me at [log in to unmask]
