As I read all these comments about credentials and initials, I keep coming
back to one of the reasons I have not sat for the IBCLC exam, although I am
called a "Lactation Consultant" where I work.  I have worked part time in
this capacity for over 5 years.  Three years ago I took the UCLA course and
became a CLE, and one reason was to get some credibility from
"certification."  But while I have been waiting to log all those hours to be
eligible to sit for the exam, my course hours have gotten "stale."  I feel
like I'm in a catch 22, because I need the hours of clinical experience to
sit for the exam, yet some of you are saying without the IBCLC initials I
shouldn't be giving clinical help.  So how can I possibly get the hours I
need to get those initials?

To the person looking for a breastfeeding friendly pedi in Denver, I don't
live in Denver, but Dr. Marianne Neiffert (Dr. Mom) does.  Bear in mind
though, Denver is a large city and you might want to narrow it down a little.

Who is "lucky" enough to live in the same community where Dr. Bucknam of
Babywise lives.  I guess I should look at it as an "opportunity" since I so
frequently get to practice my diplomatic, communication and education skills
(when what I really want to say is the whole philosophy offends every
parental sense in me and the best thing that book is for is fuel for the
fireplace).
