There's a name for all those piles on your desk/floor/table. It's
called the AHS Filing System. Any Horizontal Surface!! :-)
I'm well-known for my AHS system all over the house, but here's what
I'm trying to do to get some control.
In my e-mail program, I created folders to save selected messages.
Some of my labels are: Hosp & 1st Week; Feeding Aids & Devices;
Jaundice & Bilirubin; Legal Info & Public BF; Adopt-Relact-Infertility;
Alt Therapy & Herbs; Attitudes & Advocacy; BrMilk & Hi/Lo Supply;
Breasts-Ducts-Infections; Research Ideas & Sources; Web Sites...etc.
I preceed all with LC: so they will be grouped together and be clearly
separated from other e-mail files on other personal interests.
In my file drawers I use alpha files for collected reprints and
printouts. If I can't decide what subject to file them under, I will get or
make several copies to file under author's name, publication & topic(s).
That way, I'll be sure to find it when I need it. I keep all my syllabusses
(syllabi?), periodical publications, & catalogs together in expandable
hanging files. Maybe I should create a general index but I haven't got
the energy for that yet. I could use a secretary.
My file drawers are wide, so I use the extra space for video and audio
tapes collected from conferences.
Anyone have other suggestions?
