Dear Lactnet Friends:

There are 2 studies about their use in pregnancy, the Main Collaborative
Trial (430 women) and Alexander's study of 96 women. Both studies found
that breast shells discouraged breastfeeding.

Cathy Fetherston looked at their use for sore nipples postpartum and
discovered the risk of mastitis went up.
