Kathy, there was some recent discussion of this recently (check the archives)
after my query for my daughter-in-law. She can wear a mask while at the
range, and if she feels she must, can wear gloves while handling cartridges
(the lead bullet in the cartridge is only exposed at the tip) or simply wash
her hands well after handling. No one came up with any evidence that lead is
absorbed through skin at this level of exposure. This also applies during
pregnancy (although many female officers choose not to be armed on desk duty
while pregnant, some, like my DIL, don't.)
If anyone has any evidence to the contrary, please send it to me as well!
