Greetings,
What is the rationale behind wearing gloves if you are exposed to EBM on a
larger scale such as a milk bank and on a smaller scale such as NICU. From
my understanding of Universal Precautions you use them ANY time there could
be exposure to a potentially infectious body fluid, not just if you touching
it all the time.
Should just phlebotomists wear gloves, and not nurses that draw blood
occasionally?
Am I missing something here?

This is what makes me believe the gloves for the milk bank personnel are to
protect the MILK and not the personnel.
Another thought, is the use of gloves in a milk bank situation perhaps meant
to minimise small amounts of milk mixing with other donor milk?

Kirsten
