Having just moved from San Francisco, I can say breastfeeding in public is
well accepted and in some places expected.  My sister breastfed her two
girls in public until around 2 years of age.  She never experienced any
funny looks or unwanted comments.  People were more likely to smile and nod
than anything else. I have seen infants and toddlers being fed in public
places (playgrounds, restaurants, movie theatres, museums etc.) without
negative comments or looks from the "peanut gallery."
