Hi Fleur,  Could they be petechiae or purpura?  I have see petechiae commonly from the delivery process and it looks like pinpoint purple dots on the forhead if that is the presenting part.

If it isn't from the birth process and is new, I would be worried about sepsis or clotting problems.
