Hello, Lyla.
You asked about preauricular ear tags, and their possible effect on
baby's suck. For information on hemifacial microsomia or hemifacial macrosomia,
you can go back to the thread on "zero milk transfer". This baby's kidneys
should also be tested for possible problems. The kidneys develop in utero at
the same time as ears, so if there are ear tags, there are also sometimes
kidney problems. These kidney problems can lead to low-grade (undiagnosed) kidney
infections, which can drain the baby's energy and cause poor sucking. The ear
tags could be just cosmetic and have no bearing on what is going on with this
baby's ability to eat. But they also could be indicative of other problems
that need to be ruled out.
       Hope this helps.
