Hi to all. I hope the list can help me with something I am puzzled about.
First, I was relieved to hear that the mother I was afraid had breast cancer
had, instead, a galactocele. The mass was visualized by ultrasound during
the first visit to the surgeon. He has dx galactoceles before, and managed
them without much alarm, advising continued bfg or unilateral weaning --
whichever seemed most approp. He ordered immed. weaning for this mother,
and must have felt this was a solid rather than a cystic lesion from what
she told me. How common is it that an ultrasound would fail to distinguish
between a galactocele and a tumor? The cyst was about the size of a grape.

BTW, this is the 2nd galactocele I've seen this year which has occurred in a
mother with copious over-supply. I would welcome a discussion about
galactoceles, including some ref. if anyone has some good ones which
describe when and how they form, whether there are risk or warning sx which
should trigger our best preventative measures, what those measures should
be, and what folks have seen in the way of sequelae.
