I was speaking to a mother yesterday who is currently nursing 17 month old
twins. (She also nursed a previous child into toddlerhood.) She asked me if
the protective benefits of breastfeeding (less breast and ovarian cancer,
less osteoporosis ect) would be increased by nursing twins instead of a
singleton.

I had no definative answer for her. Her periods returned quite a bit later
while nursing the twins as it did with the single baby, so she thought
maybe the hormones involved in both delayed fertility and decreased
incidence of illnesses may be connected. She is in her early 20s and prime
for the protective factors of breastfeeding.

Does anyone know if her risks are lowered further by nursing twins?
