Our Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Coalition has already drafted a letter of
protest to Sec'y Thompson. Those of you who participate in ILCA affiliates,
local maternal child health organizations, nursing professional
organizations, etc. might want to consider getting your groups to send the
letter. You can volunteer to write it, but it carries more weight if it
comes from a group. I am certainly going to contact the Texas NOW
president, who is always present when we bring up a bill before our
legislature, to write a letter. Individuals are good; groups are more
powerful.

By the way, our coalition spent half a day Tues. down at the State Capitol
Building lobbying on behalf of breastfeeding as part of our on-going
legislative intitiative. Discussions on Lactnet are good for venting,
but sending those $20 checks to Marsha Walker at WABA, forming and being
active in a local bfg coalition, organizing a not-for-profit milk bank in
your community, joining ILCA and participating in one of the task force work
groups, writing letters to the editor of your local paper, petitioning your
health dept for increased bfg support, working with your local schools to
include bfg in the health curricula, connecting with a local physician and
helping move him/her towards bfg friendly policies -- these are activities
that further our agenda.
