This reminds me of a personal experience of mine.
After my second son was born I developed a medical condition requiring
medication for a period of time. The MD was not sure if the medications
were compatible with breastfeeding. He told me to stop breastfeeding
"just to be on the safe side". When I pointed out to him that
breastfeeding is VERY important to me and I don't want to stop, he
became very resourceful and helpful about finding out all he could to
support me in continuing to breastfeed.  He simply was not aware that it
was a big issue. Many  health professionals are very casual about
premature weaning.   Rather than being lazy, they are often just unaware
and uninformed. They need education, not bashing.  The problematic ones
are those than are unwilling to learn.
