Just an anecdotal bit here- I used EBM once when I was BFing my youngest. I
was doing volunteer work at the elementary school with my second child and
there were several children in the class who developed eye infections and
sure enough I got it. I expressed some milk and dropped in my eyes, enough to
wash over the surface. I did this three times the first day, and when I woke
up the next morning, I had just a faint film of "gunk" over one eye. I
repeated the application two more times and the infection was gone. It may
have been coincidental and the infection might have cleared on it's own by
day two but I think the breastmilk helped to shortened the duration and
lessen the severity. My nursling had accompanied me to volunteer each time
but did not develop any signs of infection.
