I have been terribly busy and am way behind on Lactnets, but I am impatient
enough to want to pose a question to any Lactnut who may know. I work at a
county hospital in a major city. We, of course, get the indigent of our city
and are funded by taxes, through the state. I have been there 6 months now
and have discovered, to my great joy, that some of the "powers that be" want
us to work on becoming Baby Friendly. Mind you, the state of breastfeeding at
this facility is pretty awful, but we're working on it. My question is this:
WIC works within our building as we are all connected through the state, and
they, of course, provide free formula for our clients. Will it still be
possible to get this designation, even though that probably will not change,
given our situation. My initial thought was "no", but I'm not sure, since it
is WIC and we are inextricably connected. Does anyone know? Are there other
hospitals in this situation. I'd appreciate any thoughts. I'd like to get an
idea before we get much deeper, what is realistic, what is "doable". TIA

Marsha Puckett, in cold Indianapolis, where I hate snow, but the thaw's just
as bad!
