Hi Lactnuts!!

I had a very uncomfortable experience this last weekend that I want to share
with you and I also have a couple of questions.

I hurt my back while moving and no I was not lifting anything heavy, just
holding the baby while putting some things away!!!!! So, by Friday morning I
could not move and had to ask hubby to take me to see the doctor. Well, ALL
of us usually go in and the first thing this doctor did was tell my husband to
leave for "the privacy of the patient"!! No, she did not bother to ask me a
thing!! Now, please keep in mind that I am usually not one to put up with
this sort of thing but since I needed "her" services I did not want to offend
her (we were moving that day and I was in a lot of pain!!). So they left.
Then after she examined me she said she would recommend an injection Torodol,
but since I was nursing she would not give it to me. I then told her what I
did and she says to me "well then you can understand, we get a lot of
misinformation from LCs and LaLeech that we have to deal with in the ER all
the time".

I asked her a few other questions which convinced me she was a "now it all
doctor" who was not going to go out of her way to please me, especially since
my baby was now 9 months old. She had the nerve to ask me when I was planning
on weaning, so what business of hers is it in the first place? I then asked
her "ok what would I have to do so that you can give me a shot of Torodol?"
She said I would need to pump and dump for 6 hours. I said okay fine. She
wrote the prescription. She then went on to tell me that she could not give
me any muscle relaxants (Skelaxin) for the same reason and that I could take
Advil but no more than every 4 hours.

While listening all I could do was think about all the poor women who have to
deal with this sort of thing all the time. I can see how easy it is for them
to say "ok what ever you say dr", I did. I needed her because I was in pain!!
My question: Do you have any information on Torodol and Skelaxin? What sort of
letter would you write to inform her? When I mentioned Medications in Mother's
Milk and Briggs she simply said that due to legal issues they can only use the
PDR, have any of you heard this before? I suppose I could just leave it since
I will not be seeing her again, but I felt so . . . what's the word?

Thanks in advance!!!

Smiles,
Yvonne
