 The AAP doesn't suggest whole milk under 1 year as it is linked to many
problems. The first being anemia, as whole milk can cause bleeding in the
gut of a young infant.  Also, whole milk isn't a particularly good way to
put weight on.  Most babies that young can't digest it.  I would suggest to
mom that she try something like mashed ripe avacado, addding butter to
oatmeal, or other foods high in fat, but to keep up the breastfeeding. Even
breastfeeding more often. Perhaps baby simply isn't getting enough.
YOu might contact your local health department or WIC office to see if they
have any literature about this that they could send you.  When I worked for
WIC we had a very nice pamphlet on why not to give cow's milk under 1 year.
