I am a RN Case Manager currently working in a hospital setting.
(and a long time lurker) I have also worked in the past for a large
HMO here in Texas. When I set up biliblankets for babies the
parents monitor the baby on own. Here biliblankets are supplied
by Durable Medical Companies who do not staff RN's, but lights
are set up by trained Respiratory Therapists. Most often the
babies are taken to an outpatient lab for follow-up bili. I have a
difficult time convincing the insurance companies of the
necessity for the home lab draw ie time out of lights, travel time
for new mom etc.. I always try to get a home visit covered, but
most often the parents are expected to manage the biliblanket
on their own.

Hope this helps,
Paula Caputo, RN CBE
