Three cheers for Kathy for expressing what I so often feel. If even the
co-owner of Lactnet gets bummed out, I feel a little less alone out here in
my little world! Even my most pro-breastfeeding docs sometimes give me "the
look" (well, except for our own local version of Dr. Jack, we actually have
a "Jack" who's 200% supportive...his wife even nursed my 5 day old daughter
for me for 12 hours because of an emergency radioactive dye scan for
possible pulmonary embolism! THAT'S SUPPORTIVE! )
Anyway, another always supportive doc(?) very outspoken, made the comment to
our already shakey nursery staff that he doesn't believe in nipple
confusion, as it's "not documented"! So 8 yrs of me stressing finger and cup
feeds is ...POOF! Sometimes I begin to doubt myself, and think maybe I AM
the nutsy one, as 95% of the health prof. I work with roll their eyes when I
insist that breastfeeding is to be protected at all costs..(.I guess that
makes me a zealot, too.) Why are we LC's so often *the voice crying in the
wilderness"? Kathy's post just triggered all the frustrations I am
currently feeling,,,I think
it's time I get to a conference for a jolt of encouragement!

Jennifer Kneuss, IBCLC, Ohio, mother of 5 beautiful breastfed babies:) and
glad I am not the only one who feels this way
