dear Susan and all,

i find people are most sympathetic when i just admit i have trouble
remembering names. but in the setting you are talking about, it does look bad
to not remember the client when their situation was so crucial to them. i
usually respond by saying something like, how nice to hear from you again, as
i head to my office to look at my records. then i might ask, how old is your
baby now? usually all i need is to be reminded ot the baby's name or age and i
can recall the situation. i can remember the story but not the name!
