Ellen,
Like someone else said, the baby probalby has already been exposed before
mom experienced the outbreak. Then think about this. What would mom do if
she got a cold sore (fever blister) while bf this baby? Most would continue
nsg. It is the same virus. The concern, I believe, is for a mom who
contracts the virus as a firsttime infection (primary inf.) while PREGNANT.
This would be a high possibility of infection in her newborn with a vag.
delivery and possibly bf during this initial outbreak. Also, This baby is 6
mos old, right? Less concern for the older baby.
