I just saw this earlier on ER. Baby was almost 8 months along. True knot
in cord caused death. Irked me a bit since I believe the lactation
community (I know I have)has been saying that binding causes more pain and
discomfort and doesn't hasten or lessen the time it takes to get through
it.

When I get a call from a mom in pain because the OB has told them to bind
I let them know it will be easier on them if they don't. (And of course
give them gentler ways.)

Just a few months back in our archives there is an article posted about
lactation suppression. Here is the link and just a snippet from the
article.

Tuesday, January 13th from Denny Rice (In case the link is too long)

"A recent clinical study by Swift and Janke (2003)
compared a control group using a support bra with an experimental group
having their breasts bound. Swift and Janke found the women with bound
breasts had more leakage, more pain, and needed more pain medication than
the non-bound group. A study by a group of nurses in Sweden (Radestad,
Nordin, Steineck, & Sjogren, 1998) did find that for women who had lost a
baby, breast binding served as a concrete reality of the loss and aided in
the grieving process."
