Dear lactnetters,

A technique of "jackknifing" a baby to wake it up is probably "old
school". Basically, the baby is bent in the middle, bringing its head down
to its knees. However, I have either read somewhere, or perhaps it was at a
seminar that we were cautioned not to do this. It makes sense to me that
this could be potentially harmful. (increased intra abdominal pressure, or
increased inter cranial pressure, or increased thoraxic pressure) Does anyone
remember the caution. I am interested in it as someone is suggesting this
as an effective way to stimulate a sleepy baby who is not breastfeeding
effectively.

Thanks, Kathy Bodden
