Hello Barbara, I'm glad those twins have you in their corner, they're
going to need you a great deal.

What's taught in the hospital comes from the fact that there is no
standardization at all. Well meaning staff, who have heard/read, teach the
mom's this, (double nursing) not realizing that it is several weeks before the
trio is usually ready for it. They are trying to help mom with a daunting
task thinking that nursing both will save her so much time and allow her more
rest.

As for the late follow-up, that rests solely on the Pedi. Some Peds
don't even have babies brought in for a full two weeks. Personally, my
twins were 33 weekers, I had a four day stay in ICU and my kids came home
with me on day 6 (I think), and we weren't expected to come in right away
either. I think the problem comes from "routine" or "standing"
orders. Unless the doc remembers to write a specific order regarding the
follow up time, then the mom goes home with those standard orders, just as
though she had one full term baby.
