 Bernadette:  Many toddlers do this when they first get teeth.  It's almost
as though they need to relearn nursing.  First, have mom change positions
to avoid the bleeding area.  Second, upon latch-on, have her pull or peel
out the top lip.  A lot of this abrading may be due to the top lip pinching
skin between it and the teeth.  Also, make sure mom doesn't have nipple
yeast.  If she does and there are open wounds, it could travel into the
subcutaneous area--leading to a whole other set of problems.  Yeast can
also increase healing time in wounds.
