Hi All,

Some notes on this case. Mom made milk -pumpable amounts such as 1-2 oz if
she was uncomfortable - for a couple years after weaning her older son (who
is now 3). Drs blew her off saying that some moms have milk for longer
periods after weaning - but enough milk to get overly full and
uncomfortable?? I don't think that is normal - does anyone else?
Currently, she is unable to lower the supply. She is working on simply not
letting it get any higher. If she nurses the baby during a 24 hours time
period she gets more than if she just pumps (like up to 10 ounces more!).
She needs to pump even tho she is nursing simply because of the sheer volume
of milk she has.

Mom is very interested in getting her prolactin levels and thyroid levels
checked - but Drs, again, are blowing her off. Be glad you have an
abundance, they say. She did some research on hyper-prolactinemia and
thyroid issues and the information she read made sense to her regarding
other issues she has been having the past 2 years. She and I agree that if
she does indeed have a case of hyper-prolactinemia then it really should be
looked at because obviously her body is not working correctly and she feels
that it is important to deal with the problem now before something else goes
haywire with her body and hormones. Makes sense to me.

So, what can anyone tell me about hyper-prolactinemia? Mom cannot take
pseudoephedrine - makes her very ill. She is not sure about taking the
birth control pills.I somewhat doubt that sage will help long term. We saw
a reference to ergot.anyone know anything about that?

What an interesting situation. Until it gets worked out she will be
donating milk to potentially 2 babies. One is a for sure - he has GI issues
and mom needs to supplement to a degree. Mom felt the ABM was making things
worse - Docs blew her off. She put baby on donated breast milk and Voila!
He is 100% better. Go figure. She went to the Ped who said no way to a
prescription from the milk bank - go to Ped GI and let them prescribe more
meds to fix it - surely putting him on breastmilk alone was just a
fluke.sigh.do we have any articles I can arm this mom with to convince her
Ped otherwise??

You know, whatever happened to the HCPs remembering WHO pays them??? I have
3 moms needing testing and medical care who are being told "Sorry - we don't
do that". Really now - what is up with that??

Thanks for all input!

Warmly,
