Thanks to those who suggested I do a search on Lactnet of breast abscess. I
have been thinking about an abscess all along and have discussed abscess with
the mother. I thought that with her going to the OB twice that they would
have suspected this and taken measures to evalutate for it. I definitely know
she is suffering with yeast, and I know that the high fevers indicate
infection as in mastitis or abscess. I'm concerned with all the antibiotics,
it's going to take longer to resolve the yeast.

I just spoke with the mom only to find out that both times seen in the OB
office, she was seen by their nurse practitioner. But, the nurse practitioner
did not touch the breast, only looked at it. I felt of the breast on Thursday
and couldn't feel any lump or thick spots, but surely the doc should have also
felt for something also. Anyway, the mom feels some better today. Fever is
now low grade, breast swelling is down and less red, but still extremely
painful (she is applying cabbage and pumping and that side remains low). I'm
going to go by on my way to church tonight and take a look at it. I have also
suggested that she call her OB office again in the morning and insist on a
full evaluation with ultrasound in search of an abscess.

Thanks all, I'll keep you informed of the outcome.
