sorry all, my first attempt at this was thwarted by my son "helping me".
First of all, what type of pump is she using? She needs a hospital grade
double pump.
When I rent pumps and give advice regarding pumping I suggest that the moms
start out by pumping once a day, at a time when they have them most milk
(usually AM), put the baby to the breast in f-ball hold then pump at the same
time on the opposite side. This serves several purposes in that it it allows
the pumping to take advantage of the baby initiated let down, takes less
time, takes the focus away from the amounts pumped and , I think, acts as a
primer or stepping stone to double pumping without babe. In your Mom's case,
she has lost faith in her body's ability to pump, trying this a few times in
the eve or over w/e might help to restore that.
